The decline in cumulative sales of building materials and home furnishing stores above-designated size throughout the country in 2020 shows that the home building materials industry has had a difficult year.
Recently, the 2020 National Building Materials and Home Furnishing Prosperity Index BHI jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce's Circulation Industry Development Department and China Building Materials Circulation Association showed that the BHI was 93.59 in December last year, a decrease of 7.93 points from the previous month and 5.77 points from the same period last year.
In addition, the cumulative annual sales of building materials and home furnishing stores above the designated size were 762.417 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 24.19%. Among them, December sales were 85.42 billion yuan, up 3.36% month-on-month and down 5.77% year-on-year.
The overall sales of various industries such as stores, furniture retail, construction, and decoration have all declined to vary degrees. It is not difficult to see the difficult moments experienced by the entire home building materials industry in the past year. The Industry Research Department of the China Building Materials Circulation Association admitted in the report that the unprecedented new crown pneumonia epidemic has brought a huge impact to the national building materials and home furnishing market, making the entire industry that was originally at the bottom of the "L"-shaped descending channel "exacerbated."
In addition to the "difficult business" in the domestic home building materials market, this year's domestic furniture industry exports of different categories have also been impacted to varying degrees. In the 2020 export data released by the General Administration of Customs, the ceramic tile industry’s exports fell the most. From January to December, ceramic tile exports were US$4.111 billion (equivalent to RMB 26.556 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 9.35% from US$4.535 billion in 2019.
The decline in the export of ceramic tiles was mainly affected by the domestic and foreign epidemic situation and the market. From the perspective of a single month, there were five months of positive growth in exports. Especially at the end of the year in December, there was an increase in export volume. Exports in a single month The volume reached 488 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 18.9%.
However, from an overall perspective, the total export volume of the furniture industry was still on the rise last year. The total export value for the whole year was 403.86 billion yuan, an increase of 12.2% over the same period last year. In addition, textile exports amounted to 1,069.55 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.4%; lamps were 260.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%.
It is not difficult to see that in 2020 when the epidemic situation at home and abroad is not clear, the home building materials and home improvement industries, whether for the domestic market or the overseas market, will encounter varying degrees of difficulties. However, as the domestic epidemic was effectively controlled in the second half of last year, market demand and export trade was restored to a certain extent, and the home building materials and home improvement industries also ushered in new opportunities.
